Coolie’s story is moving, and in more ways than one. On July 30th when the owners of this one-year-old Australian Shepherd mix moved, Coolie and her canine family members were surrendered to the Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter in South Carolina. Also surrendered with Coolie were her four-year-old mother Weezie and Weezie’s four six-week-old puppies. Adding to their woes, both Coolie and Weezie tested heartworm positive.
On August 10th Rebecca Davis at the shelter contacted RADAR for help. Amazingly enough, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania was interested in taking the entire family if they could get some assistance with the heartworm treatment costs for both Coolie and Weezie. We wanted to help, but our available funds were very low. An urgent appeal to our supporters for Coolie and Weezie raised all the needed funds within a few hours, and Coolie and Weezie were safe!
Coolie and Weezie had their heartworm treatment done on September 30th and October 1st. “Coolie is very energetic,” Rebecca told us. “Every time she sees someone she shows her teeth, but in a funny kind of way. She likes to put her feet on your shoulders and give kisses!” To see more photos of Coolie, click here.
RADAR paid $250 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Coolie.
