The daisy is a common wildflower, requiring little care. It was clear that this Daisy, a three- to four-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound, had received little care in her life when she arrived at the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in South Carolina as a stray on May 21st. Daisy showed evidence of having given birth to several litters of puppies. However, the main concern for her health was her heartworm positive status. Those heartworms would need to be treated in order for Daisy to have a healthy life and the price of treating heartworms is high.
On June 7th, Ruthie Rish of MAMAS contacted RADAR for help with Daisy’s heartworm treatment. Laura’s Hope Rescue in Pennsylvania wanted to transport Daisy north on the June 13th transport, but first she would need her heartworms treated. We committed to assist with Daisy, and she received her back-to-back heartworm treatments on June 9th and 10th.
“Daisy is a total sweetie pie, gentle and kind as is typical of her breed,” Ruthie said. “She’s not loud and rambunctious and vocal, but instead is very quiet and easy going. The rescue will help Daisy see another kind of life in a loving home.”
Daisy was a big hit during her transport to rescue. One of her transporters, Linda, also provided an overnight stop for Daisy. Linda shared this with us, “Lovely Daisy doesn’t quite know “how to dog,” it seems. She was extremely enthusiastic about dinner. After inhaling her meal, she flashed me the “please, may I have some more” face. Most of my overnighters are happy to join me on the couch, but she seems confused by it. When I go to look for her, she’s sitting politely in a corner. She has finally settled down, but is still in the corner. She could use some practice on a leash, but really loves to explore in typical hound fashion. I think with time she will accept a life of pampering. And how could anyone look at that face and not want to spoil her?” Be sure to view more photos in Daisy’s gallery.
RADAR paid all $263 of the heartworm treatment costs for Daisy.
