Hi there! It’s me, Dalinda, and I want to share my story with you. It all started back on September 25th, when my sibling, Daltery, and I were picked up by these people called animal control. Because we were both considered strays, they took us to the pound. Well, the official name is the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. They said that I was a one to two-year-old-German Shepherd mix.
After some testing was done, Daltery got good news and I got bad news: he tested heartworm negative, but I tested positive. What a bummer. I learned quickly that because of the cost of heartworm treatment, I faced long odds of getting adopted or rescued. Next thing you know, my name is on the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for November 17th, and that’s never good.
A volunteer named Susan Blakeney with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue went to work trying to help me and the four others on the list who were heartworm positive. On November 14th she asked the folks at RADAR if they could help with our costs so that rescues might be interested in taking us. Because of the kindness of RADAR’s supporters, they agreed to assist with all of us! And within a few days, several rescues agreed to take us. I was chosen by Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania, which is the same rescue that took Daltery, who was adopted by his foster mom!
I heard scary stories about heartworm stories, so I was dreading the treatment. I had my treatment on January 7th. If I could talk, I would tell everyone to give their dogs the monthly heartworm preventive. I can’t wait to get on with my life. And with the help of my rescue, find my forever home. Thanks to everyone who helped to save me and cover my costs. Click here to see more photos of me!
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Dalinda, which totaled $310.
