Dallas didn’t need a palace, but he sure did need to find a home. And fast. This approximately eight-year-old Boxer arrived at the Wilson County Animal Control shelter in North Carolina on August 14th. Dallas was yet another senior dog surrendered by his owner to a shelter. But this was not just another shelter where a senior dog’s life is so very vulnerable. This shelter is still a gassing facility. It was bad enough that Dallas had his life on the line, but even worse that he would die in such a barbaric and inhumane manner.
On July 20th, when RADAR found out about Dallas and his dire situation, we immediately provided an offer to assist as an incentive for a rescue to save him. After relentless networking by the volunteers with the group Wilson County NC Animal Friends, a rescue came forward for Dallas. Working with an adopter, the Minnesota Boxer Rescue agreed to take Dallas, and he was safely out of the shelter on August 26th!
On August 27th, Dallas had his initial vetting done. Dallas is now in a great home with a wonderful adopter and two other Boxer buddies! To view more photos of Dallas, click here.
RADAR paid all of the initial vetting costs of $145 for Dallas.
UPDATE! Dallas has been adopted!
UPDATE! All funds for Dallas have been raised! Thank you!
UPDATE: Unfortunately, just a week after he was adopted, Dallas started having seizures. Even after going on medication, the seizures continued. With the help of some wonderful vets, his Mom, Doreen, did everything that she could to help him, but his body just wasn’t responding. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge on September 9th, 2013. We want to thank Doreen for opening her heart and home to Dallas. We know that even though he was only a part of her life for 2 weeks, he made a huge pawprint on her heart. Rest in peace, Dallas.
