My name is Damien, which means “tame,” and I live up to that description! I’m somewhere between one and two years old, and I’m a Shepherd mixed with a bit of Hound. I arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on January 23rd after I was brought in as a stray by animal control. I really liked everyone I met at the shelter, but I knew that I couldn’t call it my forever home. And unfortunately, I got some bad news while I was there: I had heartworms.

Every Dog’s Dream Rescue in New York was interested in pulling me from the shelter, but I had to be treated for the heartworms before they could take me. On May 14th, Susan Blakeney, a liaison for the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, reached out to an organization called RADAR to see if they could help. They agreed to assist with the cost of my heartworm treatment, which meant I was safe! I got my treatment on June 5th.

I’m what you might call an all-around Good Boy. They even called me “Mr. Manners” during my time at the shelter, because I do my best to be very friendly and polite to everyone I see. I’m a skilled leash-walker, and I love to go out, be active and explore the world! To see more photos of me, click here.

RADAR paid all $290 of the heartworm treatment costs for Damien.
