Darth Vader means dark father, and as a black dog, this Darth is indeed dark. Whether or not he is a father, we have no clue! Four to five years old, 70 pounds and a Lab mix, Darth arrived as a stray on February 23rd at the Hampton County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. He had the misfortune of testing positive for heartworms.

Mary Lou Seymour of Shelter Animals Advocates and its HeartBeat Goes On program didn’t have to go to a galaxy far, far away to find a rescue for Darth. She only had to go to Connecticut and the aptly named Dog Star Rescue! They would take him if his heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Mary Lou reached out to RADAR and we agreed to help! He received his heartworm treatment on March 23rd and 24th.

“Darth gets along with other dogs and cats,” said December Clark, Mary Lou’s partner with Shelter Animal Advocates and The HeartBeat Goes On program. “He knows sit and shake commands. He’s potty trained. And, he can leap over a five-foot fence in a single bound! At least now we know how he became a stray!” Click here to view more photos of Darth.

RADAR paid all of Darth’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $360.
