Hey, look! It’s me, Dean! And I’m looking to start a new career as a full-time pet. I’m two years old and a Rottweiler mix. Back on July 8th, I was picked up by animal control and taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Oh my, what a stressful place that was! Dogs were everywhere, and there was lots of barking. It soon became clear that not all of us would make it out alive. Talk about stress! I was devastated when I found out that I was heartworm positive, since that it made much less likely for a rescue to take me.
But thanks to the tireless efforts of the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue volunteers, a rescue was found for me before it was too late. On August 20th, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take me! There was just one hitch: my heartworm treatment costs had to be covered. One of those volunteers, Susan Blakeney, knew just where to turn: RADAR. And guess what? They agreed to cover the costs, thanks to the support of their faithful donors. My heartworm treatment took place on September 10th. Thank goodness that’s done!
Susan met me at the shelter and just couldn’t stop taking pictures of me! She had all of these nice things to say about me: “Dean is a handsome, confident young guy! He has the social skills required to allow him to mix and mingle with folks of all ages and he had been practicing his face washing technique as well. He was polite and well-behaved on our walk, and he suggested that he would enjoy the chance to go for a short jog. He mixed well with other dogs, having shared his kennel with a couple of different dogs over his stay, including RADAR-assisted Cordelia. Dean is all set to be a super companion!” To see more photos of me, click here!
RADAR paid all $310 of Dean’s heartworm treatment costs.
