The name Deidra is an Irish name that means melancholy, which is exactly how Lab-Collie mix Deidra felt when she arrived with her daughter Demetria at the Darlington County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on September 15th. While she and her pup quickly turned into shelter favorites, they sat for a long time due to rescues being so full. After testing positive for heartworms, it seemed like Deidra’s chances of being saved were dwindling away.
On November 9th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked if we could help with Deidra. She had a rescue offer to pull her from the shelter, but she would still need her heartworm treatment costs covered. We agreed to assist, and both Deidra and Demetria were safe! To Love a Canine Rescue in Southeast Pennsylvania committed to taking both of them.
Susan affectionately called Deidra the “class cheerleader,” since she was always working the crowd and raising spirits! She also told us this about her: “Never meeting a stranger, this waggy-tailed, hip-swiveling Lab-Collie mix is social, happy and so much fun to hang out with. Arriving with her equally appealing pup Demetria, they are causing all the heads to turn at the shelter!” Click here to view more photos of Deidra.
RADAR paid all of Deidra’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $301.
