It’s Derrick, the bouncy Beagle boy! Estimated to be two years old, Derrick arrived as a stray on July 7th at the Greenwood County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. As is so often the case, no one came to claim him. His only hope would be an adopter or rescue, but testing heartworm positive greatly limited those options.
The same day that Derrick arrived at the shelter, Mary Lou Seymour with Shelter Animals Advocates and its HeartBeat Goes On program began her quest to find a rescue for him. On July 17th, she hit pay dirt when Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut offered to take him. The only hitch was Derrick’s heartworm treatment cost. Mary Lou immediately requested RADAR’s help and we agreed at once.
Derrick received his heartworm treatment on July 24th. December Clark, also with Shelter Animals Advocates and The HeartBeat Goes On, had this to tell us about Derrick: “He’s a sweet, bouncy furkid, who makes everyone smile. He reminds me of the cartoon character Snoopy!” Click here to view more photos of Derrick.
RADAR paid all of Derrick’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $274.
