Being part Shar Pei, Devon knows something about wrinkles. When her owner surrendered her to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on May 19th, Devon hoped it was a minor wrinkle. But testing positive for heartworms was not something that could be ironed out. Heartworm positive dogs at this shelter have only two options: get pulled or get pruned.
Mary Lou Seymour of The Heart Beat Goes On program can always come up with a new wrinkle when it comes to saving a death-row dog. She went flat out on June 5th networking Devon, a super-sweet Shepherd-Shar Pei mix, two years old, and weighing just 36 pounds. Augusta Dog Adoptions in Virginia wanted Devon but couldn’t afford the heartworm treatment cost. Mary Lou smoothed the way with a request to RADAR for assistance. We agreed, and Devon was safely off death row on June 19th. She had her heartworm treatment on July 14th.
If your brow is furrowed with worry and your forehead is creased with cares, Devon will lick them away. She can be a little shy at times but loves to play with familiar doggy friends and her natural wrinkle remedies are cuddle, nuzzle and snuggle! To view more photos of Devon, click here.
RADAR paid all of Devon’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $110.
