If Dipper were smaller or larger, she could be the Little Dipper or the Big Dipper! This four-year-old English Springer Spaniel mix was surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on July 8th. Both dogs recently had litters of pups, which their owner decided to keep, but simply discarded Dipper and Nellie. While Nellie was quickly able to secure a rescue placement, unfortunately for Dipper, she tested heartworm positive, and had to wait.

On July 24th, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Dipper if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, immediately asked for our help, and we agreed! Dipper received her heartworm treatment on August 15th.

“Dipper was very overwhelmed when she first arrived at the shelter,” Susan told us. “Her shelter igloo was her safe haven. While she was able to relax a wee bit, she was still a bit slinky and low to the ground. The rescue will be working with her to help overcome her anxieties. Dipper is great with other dogs and should turn around just fine once she’s in her new home.” To see more photos of Dipper, click here.

RADAR paid all $272 of the heartworm treatment costs for Dipper.
