On June 19th, a cruelty officer brought this abandoned one-year-old Pit Bull mix to the DeKalb County Animal Services shelter in Decauter, Georgia. The officer named her Diva because, despite being on a chain tied to a tree for months, she just insisted that everyone love her.
Diva’s charming ways didn’t go unnoticed by Jacki McDonald, Adoption/Rescue Coordinator at the shelter. A Pit Bull in an overcrowded, high-kill shelter rarely gets more than a few days to get out alive, but Jacki was Diva’s guardian angel. By mid-August though, time was running out for Jacki to save Diva. The shelter was overflowing and Diva’s days were numbered.
Enter Lori Heath, a remarkable rescue facilitator in Georgia. Lori asked for RADAR’s help, and on August 14th RADAR offered to pay the initial vetting for Diva as an incentive if a rescue would commit to pull her. On August 16th, the Rotten Russells Rescue Ranch in Georgia agreed to take Diva. Imagine Jacki’s joy, and relief (not to mention Diva’s)!
Since the rescue was able to take care of Diva’s initial vetting, RADAR’s assistance was used instead to cover her spaying. Click here for more photos of Diva.
RADAR committed to cover Diva’s total spaying cost of $78.
While awaiting her spaying appointment, Diva (now known as Penelope) was approved for adoption into a great home!
