Forget the World Cup, our donors deserve the Dixie Cup for enabling us to assist Dixie, RADAR’s 250th dog! This five-year-old Shepherd mix, and her canine stepsister Coco, a five-year old Lab-Shepherd mix, were living the good life together. Then their owner died. Suddenly, these two very happy and loving dogs found themselves in the Beaufort County Animal Control shelter in Washington, North Carolina, where they arrived on June 22nd.
Bad enough that their owner died, but now both dogs faced being euthanized as well. RADAR immediately provided an offer to assist with both dogs as an incentive for a rescue to pull one or (better yet) both of them. With only a few hours to spare, Black Dogs & Company Rescue in Maryland agreed to take both Dixie and Coco! This rescue was recently started by RADAR supporter Cindy Hagan.
On June 27th, both dogs were safely out of the shelter and went directly for their initial vetting. Unfortunately, both dogs tested positive for heartworm, which the rescue will treat once the dogs are in Maryland. In addition to the initial vetting costs, RADAR paid for the temporary vet boarding of Dixie and Coco from June 27th until their transport on July 6th. To see more photos of Dixie, click here.
RADAR paid all of the $90 initial vetting costs and the $117 vet boarding fees for Dixie, for a total of $207.
