What do you call a sweet girl from South Carolina? None other than Dixie Chick! Three years old and a Pointer mix, Dixie Chick was running loose on April 5th when she was hit by a car. She was taken to the Clarendon County Animal Control shelter in South Carolina. Luckily, Dixie Chick only had minor injuries. However, when her owners were contacted, they told the shelter they no longer wanted her. As if getting hit by a car and her family no longer wanting her were not enough, Dixie Chick was heartworm positive.
Kathie Weinberg of Home Sweet Home Animal Rescue in New Jersey wanted to help Dixie Chick (who was originally called Roxie at the shelter), but needed help to cover her heartworm treatment costs. On April 13th, Kathie reached out to RADAR for help. We agreed to assist, and Dixie Chick was safe! She received her heartworm treatment on April 14th. Dixie Chick was transported to the rescue on May 7th.
“She is just a lovely girl,” Kathie told us. “She is well-mannered, playful and a super wiggle bottom! She gets along just great with all the other dogs in her foster home and is just the right mix of energy. After playing with her friends, she hung on the couch with her foster mom to watch a movie. She will make an ideal addition to any family.” To see more photos of Dixie Chick, click here.
RADAR paid all $219 of the heartworm treatment costs for Dixie Chick.
