Dixie was already in dire need when things went from bad to worse. The one to two-year-old Labrador Retriever mix and her seven puppies were surrendered to the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on March 30th. Sadly, all but one of her pups perished from parvovirus, and poor Dixie tested positive for heartworms.
On April 17th, Puppy Paws Rescue in Maryland offered to take Dixie and her pup, Dallas, if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Brandi Sowell, RADAR’s liaison with the shelter, immediately asked for our help, and we agreed to assist.
As it turned out, getting heartworm treatment not only saved Dixie’s life, but led directly to finding her forever home. The vet assistant who helped with her heartworm treatment on May 12th adopted her! Dixie is described as shy, but sweet. She has truly blossomed since getting her second chance! RADAR paid $250 towards Dixie’s heartworm treatment costs.
