It’s the delightful Dixie! A one to two-year-old Hound mix, she was picked up as a stray by animal control on January 29th and taken to the Darlington County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Stunning as she is, she languished at the shelter, due in large part to her status of being heartworm positive.

On March 18th, To Love a Canine Rescue in Southeast Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Dixie, but only if her heartworm treatment was done first. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, knew just what to do: ask RADAR! “We’ve been pushing and pushing her, and still nothing until today!” We agreed to assist Dixie, and she was safe! She received her heartworm treatment on April 10th.

“Dixie is loving, mellow and sweet,” Susan told us. “She loves to run! She’s kid-friendly. A totally typical Hound. She is strikingly beautiful, graceful and calm. She has good manners and is very friendly. I love, love, love this girl!” Click here to view more photos of Dixie.

RADAR paid all $278 of the heartworm treatment costs for Dixie.
