Donna is the “Ma” to two pups, which makes her a MaDonna! About a year old and a Pit Bull mix, Donna was surrendered by her owners to the Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter in South Carolina on June 1st. Surrendered with Donna were her two older pups. Shelter staff observed that she was very patient with her offspring. While her puppies were likely to get adopted or pulled by a rescue, Donna faced two major roadblocks: being a Pit Bull mix and heartworm positive.

On June 4th the shelter reached out to RADAR’s for help with Donna. As an incentive for a rescue to take her, we agreed to provide an offer to assist with her heartworm treatment costs. It took a few weeks, but by late June, Donna had a rescue commitment. Second Chance Rescue in New York agreed to take her. Donna’s heartworm treatment took place on August 7th.

Donna was fortunate to secure a foster home placement to recover from her heartworm treatment. Her foster mom described her this way: “Donna is a total sweetheart and eager to please! She loves to play with her buddies at my home. She is a great dog!” Click here to view more photos of Donna.

RADAR paid $250 towards Donna’s heartworm treatment costs.
