Donovan from Duplin was down on his luck. Donovan’s owner surrendered him to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina in late January. Donovan, an 18-month-old Labrador Retriever mix, not only had heartworms, but was walking with a noticeable and painful limp on his rear left leg. X-rays revealed that he had an anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, which is a tear in one of the knee ligaments that joins the upper leg bone with the lower leg bone. Donovan would need costly surgery.
On January 30th, Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for Duplin County, asked for our help for Donovan. Pet Friends of Duplin County would rescue him, but needed help for the costly ACL surgery. We agreed to assist. Donovan had his ACL surgery on February 23rd.
“Donovan is extremely loving and affectionate,” we were told. “He walks well on a leash. He gets along great with cats. He loves his toys and goes into his crate when he wants a nap. Everyone who meets Donovan falls for him big time!” To view more photos of Donovan, click here.
RADAR paid $300 towards Donovan’s ACL surgery costs.
