Dottie is absolutely darling! A six-year-old Lab mix, she was brought in along with Silk, a six-year-old Chihuahua mix, to the Greenwood County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on November 10th. The two of them were both heartworm positive, which meant that finding a rescue or adopter to take them would be that much harder. In addition to that, Dottie had some serious coughing going on, which delayed some of her vetting.
While it seemed like Dottie’s chances of being saved were diminishing, there was still hope! Mary Lou Seymour with the Shelter Animals Advocates and its HeartBeat Goes On program had interest from Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut in taking both dogs. The only remaining obstacle was paying for their heartworm treatment. On December 3rd, Mary Lou contacted RADAR to see if we could help. We agreed to assist, and they received their heartworm treatment on December 11th!
December Clark, Mary Lou’s partner with Shelter Animal Advocates and The HeartBeat Goes On program said this about her: “Dottie is a very nice girl. She has the best demeanor. I gave her a pillow with her bed, and watched her rearrange it all cute to lay on!” To see more photos of Dottie, click here.
RADAR paid all $341 of the heartworm treatment costs for Dottie.
