Oh, for the love of Dove! This four-year-old Pit Bull mix was at risk too often and in too many ways. Dove first arrived at the Chester County Animal Care & Control shelter in South Carolina several months ago. She was a Pit Bull mix, pregnant and heartworm positive, but a rescue took her, and she had her puppies. Of course, that’s not the end of the story.
The rescue that took Dove went under, and Dove ended up at a high-kill shelter in North Carolina. She was underweight and still heartworm positive. When the good folks with the Chester County Animal Care & Control found out about Dove’s plight, they managed to get her back to their shelter on July 1st, where she would have a much better chance of surviving and finding another rescue. She had lost a lot of weight, so the first challenge would be to get some weight on her so that she could go through heartworm treatment.
The shelter and other advocates for Dove networked extensively to find a rescue for her. RADAR was contacted on July 12th, and we offered to cover Dove’s heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On July 23rd, South of the Bully Rescue in North Carolina agreed to take Dove! Her heartworm treatment took place on July 26th. To view more photos of Dove, click here.
RADAR paid all of Dove’s $200 heartworm treatment bill.
