What would it take to give Drake a break? About three years old and a Collie mix, Drake arrived as a stray at the Sampson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on February 23rd. He never had much of a life, and did not know what it is like to be loved or live indoors. Drake was also a black dog with a noticeable underbite and, even worse, he was heartworm positive.

On March 3rd, Sampson County Friends For Animals in North Carolina requested RADAR’s for help with Drake (known as Dracula at the shelter). A rescue was interested in Drake, but assistance was needed for his heartworm treatment costs. We agreed to help, and K-9 Lifesavers Dog Rescue in Virginia committed to take Drake! He received his heartworm treatment March 24th.

“Drake is an exceptional dog!” his temporary foster told us. “To look at him, he’s just another dog but with strange teeth, but he is so much more than that. He’s intelligent, sweet and loving. He absolutely loves stuffed animals, and carries them around from one area to another.” Click here to view more photos of Drake.

RADAR paid all of Drake’s heartworm treatment costs, totaling $151.
