Dred had much to dread when his owners decided they no longer wanted him. Approximately seven years old, this Newfoundland-Lab mix was surrendered to the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on October 15th. As an older, large and black dog in a kill shelter, Dred was very much an at-risk dog.

On October 22nd, as an incentive for a rescue to take Dred, RADAR provided an assistance offer. Good news arrived for Dred on November 7th, when Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary in West Virginia agreed to take him! Almost Heaven, which specializes in senior dogs and dogs with special needs, had a foster home waiting for Dred.

During Dred’s vetting on November 9th, his neutering led to the discovery of several testicular tumors. With the vet fairly certain that the tumors were cancerous, they were all removed. Dred also had to have a number of broken and decayed teeth removed. We were told that Dread is the sweetest dog. To see more photos of Dred, click here.

RADAR paid $200 towards Dred’s initial vetting, neutering and dental treatment costs.

UPDATE! Dred has been adopted! His foster mom, who was fostering to adopt, has given Dred his forever home. His new mom says he is incredible!

UPDATE! All funds for Dred have been raised! Thank you!
