Forget about looking for Mr. Goodbar; we’ve found Mr. Dunbar! On August 30th, animal control brought this two to three-year-old Pit Bull mix to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. For two long months Dunbar waited for someone to adopt or rescue him. At first he tested heartworm positive, but then negative on a follow-up test. A third test confirmed that he was indeed heartworm positive. The end of October seemed to be the end for Dunbar as well. He was on the shelter’s PTS (Put To Sleep) list for October 30th.
Both the shelter staff and the volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society were pulling for Dunbar to get a second chance. In Dunbar’s final hours, the folks at One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania sent this message: “We can’t stand it anymore, send him to us!” There was just one catch: Dunbar’s heartworm treatment costs. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, wasted no time asking for our help. One of our dedicated supporters, Melissa Feeney, graciously offered to cover our costs for Dunbar!
On November 5th, Dunbar received his heartworm treatment. Susan had this to share this us this about Dunbar: “He is such a lovable boy. He wants to greet everyone he meets, including people, other dogs, and even cats! Dunbar loves being petted and giving kisses!” To view more photos of Dunbar, click here.
RADAR paid all of Dunbar’s heartworm treatment costs totaling $203.
