Little Duncan the Dachshund takes the cake, and that would be a Duncan Hines cake, of course! On March 3rd, three-year-old Duncan was brought to the Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter in South Carolina. Sadly, his owner died, so he was surrendered to the shelter. Duncan had lost both his owner and his home. When Duncan tested heartworm positive it meant that he would not be available for adoption, but would need a rescue commitment to leave the shelter alive.
On March 9th, Megan Openhym, the founder and president of God’s Grace Canine Rescue in Maryland, contacted RADAR seeking our assistance for Duncan (known as Snickers at the shelter). The rescue was interested in taking Duncan, but needed help with his vetting and heartworm treatment costs. We agreed, and Duncan was safe! Duncan was neutered on March 14th and received his heartworm treatment on April 5th.
“During his vetting, it was discovered that at some point both Duncan’s jaw and hip were broken,” Megan told us. “They have since healed, although incorrectly. Neither appear to be causing him any pain and there isn’t much we can do since the breaks have already healed. Regardless, his foster reports he’s just a happy little guy. His tail wags constantly and he is a very well-behaved little boy!” Click here to view more photos of Duncan.
RADAR paid $250 towards Duncan’s neutering and heartworm treatment costs.
