It seemed like it would be a slam dunk to get the stray Duncan back to his owner. When he was picked up by animal control on July 19th and taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina, he had his owner’s contact information on his collar. Duncan’s owner was contacted, but never came to reclaim him. Two years old, Duncan is a blend of Shepherd, Hound and Lab. Not only did his owner shun Duncan, but with him testing heartworm positive, rescues and adopters did as well.
On September 10th, when Duncan’s name was added to the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for September 14th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked us to help. We provided an offer to cover Duncan’s heartworm treatment costs to encourage a rescue to take him. And just in time, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to pull him! Duncan had his heartworm treatment done on October 4th.
“Duncan wins the day for the most handsome boy!” Susan told us. “He is also sweet, calm and polite. It is easy to see how this handsome and friendly dog would fit in with a variety of families.” Click here to view more photos of Duncan.
RADAR paid all of Duncan’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $333.
