Eddie is way more than just “a hound dog, crying all the time.” A three to five-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix, Eddie limped into the yard of a citizen who lived in a popular hunting area. Eddie was taken to the Granville County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on October 17th in an attempt to reunite him with his owner. But no owner ever came. Unfortunately, Eddie was just another hunting dog in a community with too many neglected hunting dogs.
Eddie was examined by the shelter’s volunteer vet, and it was determined that he needed an emergency pull by a rescue ASAP. His limping looked like a sign of a broken leg and he also had a possible dislocation at the carpus. On top of that, Eddie also had a serious ear wound. The vet concluded that Eddie was in need of daily care, medication and x-rays to determine if emergency surgery is needed. On October 20th, Laurie Cortright with the Granville County Shelter Partners for Adoption, Rescue and Education (SPARE) Virtual Shelter reached out to RADAR for help. We agreed and Eddie received his initial vetting, x-rays and treatment on October 22nd and 24th.
The results from two sets of x-rays indicated that Eddie would not need emergency surgery! His leg was not broken and he has been receiving antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and pain medicine to treat an aggravated, old injury. “His leg is much improved,” his foster told us. “Eddie has been through quite a lot, but is still a sweet and loving dog. He was a favorite among the shelter volunteers and staff. Eddie is a great, friendly dog. He loves being around other animals and people, and will greet everyone he meets with a hug. He prefers being with people to being alone.” Click here to view more photos of Eddie.
RADAR paid $200 towards Eddie’s initial vetting, x-ray and treatment costs.
