Elmer just wants to be heard! This very vocal six- to eight-year-old Hound mix is proof that it doesn’t take all four legs to make a great best buddy. Elmer arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on November 16th. It was assumed that he had been hit by a car, because one of his back legs was shattered. Elmer had to have the leg amputated, but he quickly proved that he was just as good on three legs as he was on four. Sadly, Elmer was facing another problem: he was heartworm positive.
After a long wait, good news came when Caring for Creatures in Virginia expressed interest in pulling Elmer from the shelter. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted RADAR to see if we could help with the cost of his heartworm treatment, which would secure his rescue. We agreed to help, and Elmer got his treatment on May 7th!
We were told that Elmer is an extremely friendly and sociable boy who enjoys walking, mingling with other dogs, and just hanging out! He uses his big Hound bark when he feels he needs a bit more attention, but quiets down with company. Who wouldn’t love this terrific tripod? Click here to view more photos of Elmer.
RADAR paid all of Elmer’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $301.
UPDATE! All funds for Elmer have been raised! Thank you!
