What was the one line everyone wanted to hear about this Elvis in the shelter? “Elvis has left the building!” Three to four years old and a Border Collie mix, Elvis arrived on November 21st as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Despite all of his curb appeal and sparkling personality, finding an adopter or rescue proved to be as elusive as finding his blue suede shoes! It didn’t help that he was heartworm positive. It was going to be a blue Christmas for Elvis.
‘Twas the day before the day before Christmas (also known as December 23rd) when To Love a Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Elvis. The only catch was that his heartworm treatment costs needed to be covered. RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, wasted no time in asking for our help. We agreed and Elvis was safe the same day! His heartworm treatment took place on January 13th.
“Elvis is a super skilled tail wagger, hugger and kisser,” Susan told us. “While his namesake might have wanted to take center stage and blow you away, this Elvis is pretty low key and polite. He has a warm, gentle aura about him. He interacts nicely with other dogs. Elvis would be in his element surrounded by kids and other dogs, but no cats, please! Elvis is not looking to make another platinum album, but simply hoping to find a forever family.” Click here to view more photos of Elvis.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Elvis, which totaled $298.
