Introducing the fantastic Fantasia! This approximately two-year-old American Pit Bull mix arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on February 15th. It’s not easy for any dog to get out of a high-kill shelter alive, but nearly impossible for any dog with a hint of Pit Bull, and especially one who tests heartworm positive, like Fantasia. With no one showing any interest in Fantasia, she was placed on the dreaded “Put To Sleep” list for March 26th.
Fantasia finally had the very good fortune to have Virginia Paws for Pits rescue offer to take her if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan Blakeney, a volunteer with the Darlington County Humane Society and their liaison with RADAR, asked for our assistance, and we agreed. Fantasia was now safe! She had her heartworm treatment done on April 11th and 12th.
Susan shared this with us about saving Fantasia, “She’s fun and vibrant. She’s bubbly and giggly. Fantasia is a skilled leash walker, and always ready to go and have a great time. Everything is simply bigger and better in Fantasia’s world…she gives out HUGE kisses, snuggles, and affection!” To view more photos of Fantasia (taken by Susan), click here.
RADAR paid all of Fantasia’s heartworm treatment costs of $230.
