Farah is a brindle beauty with velvet fur! But she has a sad tale to tell. This five-year-old Shepherd-Hound mix was dropped off by her owners at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on April 26th. The children in Farah’s family had grown up and moved away, so their parents decided it was time for the family dog to go as well. Testing heartworm positive, Farah faced long odds at the shelter of getting adopted or taken by a rescue.

When Farah showed up on the Put To Sleep list for May 29th, RADAR had to act. We contacted Susan Blakeney, our liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers. We offered to cover Farah’s heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take her, and Puppy Paws Rescue in Maryland agreed to take Farah!

With her heartworm treatment now done, Farah can look forward to finding her true forever family. Susan shared this with us about Farah: “She’s very calm and low key. Farah is polite and very gentle. She takes it all in stride and is never in a rush. Farah is always very, very friendly!” To view more photos of Farah, click here.

RADAR paid all of Farah’s heartworm treatment costs of $215.
