Hello! My name is Ferguson, and I’m a two to three years old Shepherd mix. Back on October 22nd, my days as a stray ended when I was taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Oh my, the shelter was so crowded and noisy. I couldn’t wait to get out of that place. Dogs would come and go, but there I was stuck without any adopter or rescue interest. Then I learned what the problem was: I was heartworm positive. Thanks mosquitoes!
As much as I wanted a home for the holidays, even more pressing was staying alive. On December 12th I was include on the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for December 17th. Things were not looking good. Little did I know that a nice lady, Susan Blakeney, asked RADAR for help to save me the same day I was put on that dreaded list. Thanks to RADAR’s supporters, they agreed at once to help cover my costly heartworm treatment costs so that a rescue could take me.
Just a few days later, on December 16th, Almost Home Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania stepped up to take me! Safe at last! When I went for my heartworm treatment on January 6th, my body did not respond well to the first of two injections. So I had to wait until February 10th to complete my treatment. Ugh! Please give your dogs heartworm preventative!!
After Susan met me at the shelter to take my pictures, she had this to share about me: “This friendly, super-skilled hugger and kissy lover, will tell you he loves to get in on the fun and is very good at finding the fun spots! A polite and excellent leash walker, Ferguson had an endless supply of gentle affection to share with his new walking buddies. He was eager to accept attention and love, and be part of the action. Ferguson is a terrific companion and easily earned a blue ribbon for this red head!” Click here to see more photos of Ferguson.
RADAR paid $300 towards Ferguson’s heartworm treatment costs.
