Fear not, unlike Princess Fiona in the movie Shrek, this Fiona is not transformed into an ogress at sunset! Estimated to be three years old, Fiona is a Dogo Argentino mix (also known as an Argentinian Mastiff). She was found roaming the streets and got picked up by animal control. Fiona arrived at the Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter in South Carolina on April 15th. As the months passed by without any adopter or rescue interest, Fiona became increasingly at risk. In early August she was placed on the shelter’s urgent list.
On August 17th, RADAR offered to assist with Fiona’s vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take her. On August 19th, Melissa McAllister and her South of the Bully Rescue in North Carolina agreed to take Fiona! She safely left the shelter the next day. Fiona’s initial vetting and spaying took place on August 25th. She was diagnosed with demodex mange and received treatment.
“She is such a sweet girl!” Melissa told us about Fiona. “Her foster mom said she is close to perfect! She’s a good girl in her crate, and loves to play and get love equally.” The shelter staff had also noted that Fiona loved to play fetch with a ball, and liked to be pampered! RADAR paid all $80 of the initial vetting and spaying costs for Fiona.
