After spending her life as a backyard breeder, Fiona’s fate finally took a turn for the better. On June 2nd, this overbred five-year-old Boxer-Bully Breed mix was surrendered by her owner, along with her son Flash, to the Fairfield County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Both dogs had long nails, were flea-ridden with dermatitis, had ear infections and were loaded with intestinal worms. And yet, the worst threat to these dogs’ health hasn’t been listed yet: both tested positive for deadly heartworms.
On June 12th, Samira Yaghi, the shelter’s Rescue Coordinator contacted RADAR. Would we be able to help with the cost of Fiona’s (and Flash’s) heartworm treatments? She hoped that once the dogs were treated, a rescue might step up to take them. We committed to both dogs’ better future. Fiona and Flash both had their back-to-back heartworm treatments on June 15th and 16th.
When united at the shelter again with Flash, Fiona was so happy! She tested well with other shelter dogs, excited yet friendly. Fiona has a sad look on her face, but Samira is hoping to turn that sad face to a happy one. She will find Fiona a rescue and then Fiona will get the caring loving home she has never had. Be sure to view more photos in Fiona’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Fiona’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $311.
UPDATE! Fiona and Flash both had a confirmed rescue on June 22nd with East Coast Canine Rescue in Connecticut, and were transported to rescue on June 26th!
UPDATE! All funds for Fiona have been raised! Thank you!
