With all of her speckles, no wonder her name is Freckles! ‘Twas the week before Christmas when Freckles, a two to three-year-old Pointer Hound mix arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Sadly, Freckles went unnoticed by potential adopters and rescues. It did not help her situation that she was heartworm positive. When the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for February 4th was posted on January 29th, Freckles was on the list.

On January 29th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted us for assistance with Freckles. We immediately provided an offer to cover the heartworm treatment costs for Freckles as an incentive for a rescue to take her. Two days later, Almost Home Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Freckles!

Freckles had her heartworm treatment done on February 11th. After her recuperation, she was transported to her rescue on March 21st. Susan had this to report to us regarding Freckles: “She’s a sweet and loving a gal! She’s friendly, fun and bubbly. She’s lovely with other dogs. Freckles goes with the flow and is very unflappable.” To view more photos of Freckles, click here.

RADAR paid all $217 of the heartworm treatment costs for Freckles.
