Lincoln was known as Honest Abe, and truth be told, this is Honest Gabe! This two-year-old Pit Bull mix arrived on October 29th at the Lee County Animal Services shelter in North Carolina. Sadly, Gabe was surrendered to the shelter by his owner. As if it wasn’t bad enough to be surrendered to a high-kill rural shelter, Gabe’s life was also more at risk because he was a black dog and a Pit Bull mix.

On October 29th, as an incentive for a rescue to take Gabe, RADAR provided an offer to assist with his vetting costs. On November 17th, the New England Humane Society in Rhode Island agreed to take Gabe! He had his initial vetting and neutering done on November 18th, and then went to a temporary foster home.

Mary Ashburn with the Friends of Lee County NC Animals advocacy group told us this about Gabe: “From my interactions with him at the shelter and then when I drove him to vet, he is a big goofy lover boy! He loves attention. I went to see him at his temporary foster home, and when he saw me and I spoke to him, it was on! He did not like one bit that I was leaving and not taking him along. He is a great boy!” To see more photos of Gabe, click here.

RADAR paid all $150 towards the initial vetting and neutering costs for Gabe.
