A shelter prison cell was no place for Gabriel! Described as “a super wonderful fellow,” Gabriel is a four-year-old Labrador Retriever mix. He was a stray taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on November 3rd by animal control. Such a sweet guy, with an absolutely adorable puppy face, should have been adopted or rescued very quickly. But Gabriel tested heartworm positive.
On November 20th Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted us. Gabriel had a rescue offer on the table from Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania, but it was valid only IF his heartworm treatment costs could be covered. We agreed to assist, securing Gabriel’s rescue! He received his heartworm treatment on December 8th.
We were told this about Gabriel from his time at the shelter: “You can’t help but fall in love with this gentle boy after spending a little time with him! Gabriel was napping in his dog house, but very happily got up to go for a little walk. He was a great walking buddy and loved getting the attention. He may be a little nervous at first, but he sure does love his people! He was a very polite little model and sat very still to have his pictures taken. After photo time, he got to meet the yard kitties and decided that they were okay to hang out with. He loves to cuddle and wag his tail!” To see more photos of Gabriel, click here.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Gabriel, which totaled $250.
