Gibson might not know how to play guitar, but he does know how to warm your heart! This three-year-old mixed breed arrived at the Columbus County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on June 8th as a stray. Two months passed without any interest from a rescue or potential adopter, leaving Gibson with only a day left to live. The shelter reached out to the North Country Pet Adoption Services rescue in New York to see if they could pull him. The rescue wanted to save him, but there was one problem: he needed treatment for heartworms.

On August 9th, Patti Gorby with the rescue reached out to RADAR for our help. We agreed to assist, and Gibson was saved just in time! Vetting revealed that Gibson would need femoral head osteotomy (FHO) surgery, which took place on August 23rd. He received his heartworm treatment on September 5th and October 2nd and 3rd. Thanks to our generous donors and the greatly discounted FHO surgery, we were able to fully cover both costs, leading Patti to exclaim, “OMG, this is so absolutely amazing. You’ve made me cry in a good way! This is absolutely wonderful. Thank you!”

The rescue had this to share about Gibson: “He walks fantastically on a leash! We think he should be okay with cats as long as it’s a very slow and careful introduction, and the cat is calm. He can be a little nervous of some men at first but warms up. His ideal home would be a very quiet adult only home, where he could be someone’s companion. He’s had a rough life and just needs a loving home to decompress and feel safe in.” Click here to view more photos of Gibson.

RADAR paid all of Gibson’s heartworm treatment and femoral head osteotomy costs, which totaled $650.
