The name Gideon means great warrior. Gideon the dog is a Bully Breed and Hound mix and was an owner surrender at the Surry County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on February 27th. He was left at the shelter without even a name, so Gideon was chosen for him. As an owner surrender, this senior dog could be euthanized at any time in this small, rural shelter. Gideon had a number of health conditions to battle: his teeth were missing or worn down, he was not neutered or vaccinated, and he was heartworm positive.
On February 28th, animal advocate Kathryn Haddock and Sarah Dutton of Lost Fantasy Stables & Animal Rescue in Virginia contacted RADAR. Sarah wanted to rescue Gideon but needed assistance with Gideon’s medical costs. His health had been neglected for a long time. We said “yes!” to helping Gideon. The next day, Lost Fantasy and RADAR agreed to work with Little Big Dog Rescue in Virginia to take Gideon. Everything was working out for Gideon, and he ready to go home with his new foster mom, Lori DeBusk. For Gideon’s initial vetting, he got to go visit Dot Terry, co-founder of Little Big Dog Rescue. On March 6th and 7th Gideon had basic veterinarian tests exams along with neutering. Little Big Dog Rescue will cover Gideon’s heartworm treatment costs. Dot Terry told us that we had provided “the grant that saved Gideon!”
On March 7th, RADAR heard some wonderful news…Gideon had an adoptive home. Where, you might ask? With Lori and her family! While Gideon was away getting his initial vetting, they realized just how much they missed Gideon, and couldn’t wait to get him back home! When Lori picked up Gideon from Virginia, she realized that Gideon missed her too! Gideon was so happy to be with his family. Gideon loves his toys and has a favorite spot to chill-out in the families fishing hut, where Gideon spends time staring out at the water, contemplating life. RADAR paid all of Gideon’s vetting, test and neuter costs, which totaled $291.
