With RADAR’s help, Gilly goes to Philly! And so does her pup, Marie! And how fitting for Gilly and Marie, who were picked up as strays on Independence Day, that they will find their freedom in Philadelphia. But before that came to pass, the three to four-year-old Bully Breed mix Gilly and her eight to ten-week-old pup were at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. As is often the case, adopters and rescues were clamoring for Marie, but not so much for Gilly, who was heartworm positive.
On August 4th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, approached us about Gilly. “We have been pushing Gilly and her cute little pup as a package,” Susan told us. “We finally have a rescue who will pull them both, but will only if Gilly is first treated for her heartworms. Think you can help?” We agreed, enabling One Life to Live Pet Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania to take Gilly and Marie! Gilly had her heartworm treatment on September 20th.
“Gilly is as sweet as can be,” her temporary foster in South Carolina said. “She is content to lie in her crate and watch me in the house. She is really affectionate and loves to be with her person. She is low energy and very sweet tempered. She has beautiful deep-brown eyes and a such pretty face!” To see more photos of Gilly, click here.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Gilly, totaling $297.
