With his big ears and eyes, this Gizmo does bear a bit of resemblance to Gizmo of Gremlins fame! Ten years old and a Jack Russell Terrier mix, Gizmo arrived at the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on September 3rd. He was surrendered to the shelter by his owner, with no reason given. Gizmo was in dire need of dental care. That, combined with his age, made a rescue or adoption a long shot. And time was not on his side since a dog can be euthanized at any time after ten days at the shelter.

Folks at the shelter reached out to two organizations that might be able to team up to save Gizmo: RADAR and Paws for Seniors in Virginia. With an offer from us to assist with Gizmo’s vetting and dental costs, Paws for Seniors was able to commit to take Gizmo! The shelter also urged Paws for Seniors to take Gizmo’s kennel mate at the shelter, Winston. And with RADAR’s help, they did! Gizmo had his initial vetting and dental treatment done on September 11th.

“Gizmo is very outgoing and has a super friendly personality,” Brenda Scamordella of Paws for Seniors told us. “For a senior, he has a ton of energy! He is the shortest Jack Russell I have ever seen. He has a full sized body and head, stuck on two-inch legs! His fur is so soft, and just like velvet. He was a big hit with the ladies at the vet!” Click here to view more photos of Gizmo.

RADAR paid all $289 of Gizmo’s initial vetting and dental treatment costs.
