Gomez

While their names might have you thinking of the freaky-funny Addams Family, Gomez and Morticia’s situation was no laughing matter. Gomez, a four- to five-year-old Lab mix, and his five-year old Lab mix companion Morticia, arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on January 30th. They were brought in by a family who had taken them in as strays and cared for them for two months prior to bringing them to the shelter. Gomez and Morticia also had two pups with them, both of whom were adopted locally. Unfortunately, being black dogs and testing heartworm positive made it harder for Gomez and Morticia to be rescued or adopted.

While Peppertree Rescue in New York expressed their interest in pulling both Gomez and Morticia, they would both need to get their heartworm treatment taken care of first. On May 12th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked if we could assist with the cost of their treatment. We agreed, and they were safe! Gomez and Morticia received their treatments on May 25th.

Susan described Gomez and Morticia as being “soul mates,” due to their constant affection for each other. Gomez is always checking to make sure Morticia is close by, following her wherever she goes, and Morticia shows her love for him with lots of kisses. The two do just about everything together, including eating, drinking, sleeping, and exploring together. Be sure to view more photos in Gomez’s gallery.

RADAR paid all $359 of the heartworm treatment costs for Gomez.
