Goober lives up to his name: He is kind, goofy, playful and wants nothing more than to be everyone’s (and every dog’s) best friend! A four-year-old Lab mix, Goober was surrendered to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on February 5th. He was the best friend of a little boy whose family had to move and surrender two of their three dogs. The shelter said there was not a dry eye in the building as this little boy loved Goober so much and was heartbroken to give him up. Just to make matters worse for Goober, he also had heartworms.

On February 8th, Karen Steers of Peak Lab Rescue in North Carolina contacted RADAR to ask if we could help with Goober’s heartworm treatment costs. If so, the rescue would pull him. We agreed and Goober was pulled from the shelter the same day! He received his treatments on April 19th and 20th.

“Goober is great with people big and small,” Karen said, “He wants nothing more than to follow you around and soak up your love. He is also great with other dogs. He is patient with puppies, respectful of senior dogs, and mellow with dogs that may not be the friendliest to him. Goober goes with the flow in any situation. We are pretty sure he was mostly kept tied outside. He has a chain mark around his neck. He is extremely friendly and happy as can be.” Click here to view more photos of Goober.

RADAR paid all of Goober’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $273.
