Gracie is a Carolina Dog from the Carolinas! The Carolina Dog is a native of the Southeast, and is also known as an American Dingo. Three to four-year-old Gracie arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on November 6th. She was brought to the shelter by animal control. Volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue were surprised that a great dog like Gracie lingered at the shelter. Her heartworm positive status was likely a big turn-off to potential adopters and rescues.
The New Year brought some new luck to Gracie. Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Gracie, but only if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, contacted us on New Year’s Day to see if we could assist. With some extra help from our supporter Melissa Feeney, we agreed and Gracie was safe!
On January 14th, Gracie had her heartworm treatment done. Susan had this to tell us about Gracie: “She’s a bubbly lady and is totally terrific with other dogs. She can work a crowd like a skilled movie star! She’s always ready to flop over at a moment’s notice and beg you for a much-needed belly rub. Gracie is so pretty and fun, and just a hoot to be around!” To see more photos of Gracie, click here.
RADAR paid all $274 of Gracie’s heartworm treatment costs.
