If Grammie could sing her sad story, she just might win a Grammy! This 12-year-old Terrier mix was surrendered by her owners to the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia on May 25th. And what was their reason? The owners didn’t want Grammie to die at home, so they dropped her off at the shelter! Grammie was so sad and despondent over her plight. There was worry that she couldn’t walk, as she just laid in her kennel. She even had shelter staff in tears.
On May 29th, the Mercer County Volunteers got the word out about Grammie (she was known as Grandma at the shelter). Within a few hours RADAR made an offer to assist as an incentive for a rescue to take her. A few hours later Cindy Olweiler of Angels Among Us Animal Sanctuary in Pennsylvania offered to take Grammie if she could find at least a temporary foster.
RADAR supporter Amy Riley saved the day (and Grammie) by stepping up to temporarily foster her! Grammie’s initial vetting took place on June 7th, and the following day she made her way to Amy’s house in Pennsylvania. Amy kept Grammie quarantined for 2 weeks. Amy’s real challenge was that Grammie refused to eat. But after a few days of Amy’s TLC, Grammie began to eat and perk up. She enjoyed ambling around Amy’s yard on the lookout for bunnies! And once her quarantine was over, Grammie enjoyed being around Amy’s other dogs, and really enjoyed feeding time and treats with the other dogs.
Meanwhile, one of Cindy’s fosters who specializes in permanent fostering, offered to take Grammie, where she will be a Resident Angel for the rest of her life. In preparation for the move to her wonderful new foster home on July 7th, Grammie had a thorough vet exam and tests done on July 5th. To see more photos of Grammie, click here.
RADAR paid all of Grammie’s initial vetting, exam and testing costs of $217.
