Guy is one heck of a guy! This two-year-old Labrador Retriever ended up at the Horry County Animal Care Center in South Carolina on November 2nd as a stray. Guy was feeling scared and out of place in his new surroundings, and unfortunately, there was more bad news. As is often the case, Guy tested positive for heartworms, which could limit his rescue or adoption possibilities.

On November 7th, Heather Labbe with the New England Lab Rescue contacted RADAR and told us about Guy. If we could provide assistance with the cost of Guy’s heartworm treatment, the rescue would be able to pull him from the shelter, and Guy would be that much closer to finding his forever home. We agreed, and he was safe! Guy got his treatment on November 14th, and he made his way to a foster home just after Thanksgiving.

Though Guy was understandably scared at the shelter, Heather told us that he was never aggressive toward anyone or anything. “I just honestly think this guy needs some reassurance about himself outside the shelter environment,” she said. His foster Mom told us this, “Guy is amazing. I have fostered him for a week and he went from having to be carried everywhere to going in and out on his own. He is still a little unsure of human touch, but loves to cuddle and be loved. Guy wants desperately to please us and loves the other dogs and cats here. He is starting to run outside with the other dogs. He loves the other dogs and interacting with them. Guy loves my husband so much. He is the best foster I have ever had! Guy is very smart even though he has obviously been terribly abused. He is learning that touch is kind, loving, and good. He is learning to trust. He is very calm and low key and prefers being inside. He sleeps in his dog bed in our room and sometimes gets in our bed to cuddle, he is amazing!” Click here to view more photos of Guy.

RADAR paid $250 towards Guy’s heartworm treatment costs.
