Hanz is one Hanzsome dog! But this three-year-old Boxer blend hadn’t had a good life. After being found as a stray on August 12th and taken to the Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter in South Carolina, his owner came to claim him. When the shelter staff discovered that Hanz had been kept chained outside, the owner faced neglect charges, so Hanz was surrendered to the shelter. And of course, he was heartworm positive.

On August 23rd, Megan Openhym, who operates God’s Grace Canine Rescue in North Carolina, sought our help with Hanz’s heartworm treatment costs so that she could take him. We agreed and Hanz was safe! Following a delay in the availability of the heartworm treatment drug, Hanz was able to get his treatment done on October 11th.

We were told that “Hanz is really an amazing dog! He walks great on a leash and knows his basic commands. He is a perfect gentleman with other dogs. Hanz is a playful fella, but mild mannered and well behaved. He is very smart and gentle and loves kids!” Click here to view more photos of Hanz.

RADAR paid $300 towards Hanz’s heartworm treatment costs.
