Despite her dire circumstances, Happy was given her name because she is always happy! She arrived as a stray on August 27th at the very small and rural Allendale County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. While Happy’s age is estimated to be about four, her breed mix is much more of a guesstimate. Perhaps a Chiweenie, which is a mix between a Chihuahua and a Dachshund. What put Happy’s life at risk wasn’t her age or breed mix, but being black and heartworm positive.
With the start of the new year, Mary Lou Seymour and December Clark of The Heart Beat Goes On program and Shelter Animals Advocates decided they had to help Happy. Dog Star Rescue in Connecticut was interested in taking Happy if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. On January 12th, Mary Lou asked for RADAR’s help, and we agreed. Happy had her heartworm treatment done on January 24th and 25th.
“She loves everyone,” December shared with us. “She snorts with joy! She loves to be petted and hugged. She will give kisses like crazy. She is a playful girl who loves her toys. Happy is a nice, calm and sweet little dog. She’s quite plump and has an adorable underbite.” To see more photos of Happy, click here.
RADAR paid all $350 of the heartworm treatment costs for Happy.
