It was a dark and stormy night on July 27th when Harbor sought safe harbor at someone’s house. That “someone” was none other than Ruthie Rish with the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in Bamberg County in South Carolina. “At first she would not come to me,” Ruthie said, “but later, she went into my backyard and I was able to get her to spend the night; however, she escaped the next morning. Three days later my neighbor called to tell me she was in their garage. I was able to walk up to her and get her to come home with me and then to the shelter. Sadly, nobody came to claim Harbor.”
On August 2nd, Ruthie sought our help for Harbor, a three-year-old Golden Retriever mix. “She had clearly been neglected,” Ruthie told us. “Her coat was a complete matted mess, and she is heartworm positive.” We agreed to provide grant funding for her heartworm treatment, which was done on August 7th.
Ruthie had this to share with us about Harbor: “She is a beautiful and sweet dog. She’s a little timid about all the changes that have come into her life, but she’s got a great disposition. There’s not a mean bone in this girl’s body. She seems to love all dogs, and people too, once she gets to know them.” Click here to view more photos of Harbor.
RADAR paid all of Harbor’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $270.
