The name Harvey means “battle worthy,” and this Harvey (also known as Walker) was ready to fight for his right to a good home. This four-year-old Hound mix arrived at the Lee County Animal Shelter in Bishopville, South Carolina, as a stray way back on November 29th. Poor Harvey desperately wanted to be free to run and play, but instead he spent a long time waiting and longing for change. Sadly, Harvey was heartworm positive, which would make it that much more difficult to find that freedom he was searching for.
Thankfully, Harvey had a few good people in his corner to help him through the battle. Brandi Sowell, RADAR’s liaison with the Lee County Animal Shelter, asked for our help with Harvey’s heartworm treatment. Brandi was working with Kelly Postell, the director of Carolina Coonhound Rescue in South Carolina, which was interested in pulling him from the shelter provided that help could be found for his treatmentf. We agreed to assist, and he began his treatment on March 12th.
Harvey has been described as “quite the studmuffin,” and we totally agree! This handsome guy is on the calm side and he gets along well with his foster siblings. But being the battle-worthy type that he is, he sometimes like to be the boss, so slow intros are best! Click here to view more photos of Harvey.
RADAR paid all of Harvey’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $353.
UPDATE! Harvey has been adopted!
