Greek mythology had Helen of Troy, but it’s no myth that RADAR has Helen of Chesterfield! Estimated to be three years old, Helen is a Hound mix who arrived at the Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter in South Carolina on October 20th. She did not arrive alone. Helen and her six puppies were surrendered to the shelter by her owners because they could no longer afford to care for Helen or her puppies. None of the dogs had ever been vaccinated, and Helen, who had never been on heartworm preventative, was heartworm positive.
On October 21st, the shelter requested RADAR’s help. Forgotten Tails Animal Rescue in South Carolina, which facilitates the rescue of dogs for Mary’s Dogs Rescue & Adoption in New Hampshire, was interested in taking Helen and all six puppies. However, Helen’s heartworm treatment costs needed to be covered. We agreed to assist, and a few days later the entire family was safely out of the shelter, clean, warm, dry and fully fed! All of her puppies have now been adopted. Helen was finally able to get her heartworm treatment done on January 8th.
Ginny with Forgotten Tails Animal Rescue shared this with us: “Helen is very sweet and friendly, and loves everybody. She always wants to please. She is housebroken and walks well on a leash. Helen loves attention and is energetic. She plays well with dogs, especially small dogs. Helen was a wonderful mom. She hasn’t had the best in life, but she kept her head up high. This family deserved a second chance and now they have it. Thank you all for helping Helen!” To see more photos of Helen, click here.
RADAR paid all $220 of the heartworm treatment costs for Helen.
